Disturbing to say the least, as posted by other reviewers, gory, sex, and some totally unbelievable events, there were a number of things that were not "fleshed" out (and yes that is a play on words). I think that Mr. Smith was going for the shock factor and he certainly achieved that. This was the first book of his that I have read to the bitter end. I felt rather ill, and quite sad by the end of it, not all books have "happy endings" and certainly this one did not, but this was seemed to intentionally leave the characters broken and warped. I almost felt that I had wasted my time reading it.
